WWE SummerSlam 2021 results – Becky Lynch and Brock Lesnar return – Digital Spy

SummerSlam, WWE‘s biggest party of the summer took place in Las Vegas this year in front of a sold-out crowd at Allegiant Stadium.

The event was headlined by Universal Champion Roman Reigns taking on John Cena who, thanks to a break in his Hollywood schedule, made a return to WWE at last month’s Money in the Bank.

But the big news of the night came in the form of two highly-anticipated returns: Becky Lynch and Brock Lesnar.

Below are the full results for WWE SummerSlam 2021 plus video highlights.

Kickoff Show: Big E vs. Baron Corbin

Baron Corbin’s downward spiral saw him steal the Money in the Bank briefcase from winner Big E on last week’s SmackDown.

At SummerSlam Big E made things right again, not only beating Corbin but getting his briefcase back.

As for Corbin’s future, who knows? But mega-rich YouTuber Logan Paul was seen looking on after his defeat. Maybe he can lend Corbin some cash.

WINNER: Big E

WWE Raw Tag Team Championship Match: RK-Bro vs. AJ Styles and Omos (c)

Randy Orton superfan Matt Riddle had spent weeks getting Orton to accept him as his tag partner and last week on Raw Orton finally gave in.

Riddle managed to dispose of the giant Omos as the match came to a conclusion, while Orton was able to hit the RKO on Styles for the victory.

However long their friendship lasts, WWE has something here with RK-Bro and SummerSlam was the right time to finally pull the trigger.

WINNERS and NEW WWE Raw Tag Team Champions: RK-Bro (Randy Orton and Matt Riddle)

Alexa Bliss vs. Eva Marie

The feud between Alexa and Eva centres on a doll name Lilly who can wink. Seriously.

During the match Eva ‘slapped’ Lilly which lead to her downfall as, not long after, Alexa hit a DDT for the win.

After the match Eva was mocked by her second, Doudrop, seemingly setting up a feud between them which will hopefully not include any possessed toys.

WINNER: Alexa Bliss

WWE United States Championship Match: Damian Priest vs. Sheamus (c)

Damian Priest had a star-making performance at WrestleMania when he teamed with Bad Bunny against The Miz and John Morrison. WWE followed that up with… nothing of note.

But finally, Priest has captured his first singles title on the WWE main roster after he hit Sheamus with The Reckoning for the win.

This was a solid match and the result hopefully means WWE can get fully behind Priest.

WINNER and NEW WWE United States Champion: Damian Priest

WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship: The Mysterios (Dominik and Rey Mysterio) vs The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) (c)

Twin brothers Jimmy and Jey Uso defeated the father-son duo of Rey and Dominik Mysterio in a rematch from last month’s Money in the Bank.

Tensions had been teased between Rey and Dominik in recent weeks and in this match, the younger Mysterio didn’t offer much help to his father.

The titles staying on the Usos and in The Bloodline was absolutely the right call by WWE and hopefully now they can finally move on to some new challengers.

WINNERS and STILL WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship: The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso)

WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship Match: Bianca Belair (c) vs. Becky Lynch

Bianca Belair was scheduled to defend her WWE’s SmackDown Women’s Championship against Sasha Banks however it was announced at the start of the match that Sasha was unable to compete.

Carmella was then revealed as the new challenger but in a swerve Becky Lynch’s music then hit and she made her highly-anticipated return.

Becky then disposed of Carmella and challenged Bianca to put her title on the line. After Bianca accepted, Becky hit her with a right hand and then a slam, pinning her in under 90 seconds to become the new SmackDown Women’s Champion.

While Becky returning his a huge deal, this was not how anyone wanted to see it happen as it made Bianca, who has been a great champion, look foolish and weak.

Still, welcome back Becky we have missed you.

WINNER and NEW WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch

Drew McIntyre vs. Jinder Mahal

Drew McIntyre and Jinder Mahal have plenty of history together in WWE but it came to ahead at SummerSlam in a quick, forgettable match.

McIntyre won with the Claymore and while the victory was decisive this spot for McIntyre was a far cry from his presentation during the empty arena era.

WINNER Drew McIntyre

WWE Raw Women’s Championship: Nikki A.S.H. (c) vs Rhea Ripley vs Charlotte Flair

Nikki A.S.H.’s ‘almost a superhero’ character means that even as champion, her wins were presented as flukes as she tried to inspire others to believe in themselves.

Well all Nikki’s self-believe led to her being defeated by Charlotte who won her 12th Women’s Championship after Nikki submitted to the Figure Eight.

All three women helped make this a solid match but storyline-wise you really wonder if the point of Nikki’s short-lived title reign was just to add to Charlotte’s record.

WINNER and NEW WWE Raw Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair

Edge vs. Seth Rollins

On Friday’s edition of SmackDown Edge had channelled his former Brood persona to give Seth Rollins a ‘Brood Bath’ which saw him covered in what looked like black tar because WWE can no longer use blood.

At SummerSlam, the fans got to hear The Brood’s epic music again during Edge’s entrance which made for a nice moment.

The match was perhaps the best of Edge’s current WWE run, with a massive credit given to Rollins for his performance.

Edge won after he applied a crossface and smashed Rollins’ face into the mat, forcing him to submit.

Out of all the matches on the SummerSlam card, this is the one where the feud still has ample legs to continue.

WINNER: Edge

WWE Championship Match: Goldberg vs. Bobby Lashley (c)

Bobby Lashley defeated Goldberg here by referee stoppage, thanks to his knee being injured.

The match really exposed Goldberg’s limitations and the finish fell completely flat.

After the match, Lashley attacked Goldberg’s son Gage which means this feud will be continuing, with another match probably being set for WWE’s Saudi Arabia show.

WINNER and STILL WWE Champion Bobby Lashley

Universal Championship Match: John Cena vs. Roman Reigns (c)

This was by far the best match of the night, as Cena and Reigns told an engaging story in the ring while trying to one-up each other.

Reigns won after hitting consecutive Superman punches and a spear leaving Cena unable to kick out.

But the big story came at the end of the match when Brock Lesnar returned (with a ponytail) to confront Reigns.

Brock’s return is certainly exciting and a match between him and Reigns will be a huge deal. But Brock’s part-time status means it will only be a temporary injection of intrigue into WWE’s heavyweight picture.

WINNER and STILL WWE Universal Champion: Roman Reigns
