One of LSU’s commitments for the 2022 recruiting cycle has decided to reopen his recruitment as he heads out of Louisiana and moves to the Sunshine State ahead of his senior season.
Former Newman wide receiver AJ Johnson is no longer committed to the Tigers, and he will now explore other options among his double-digit offer list.
“I am opening things back up,” Johnson told the Geaux247 staff. “It’s still an opportunity for LSU, (I am) just opening things back up. I’m also moving to West Palm Beach. So I will be playing my senior year at another school.”
According to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite, Johnson ranks as the No. 253 overall prospect in the nation, No. 40 wide receiver in the country and No. 14 overall prospect in Louisiana.
As a junior at Newman in 2020, Johnson logged 41 catches for 587 yards and six touchdowns while playing with quarterback Arch Manning.
LSU now has 15 commitments for the 2022 recruiting cycle, leaving Orgeron and Co. with 10 available spots before National Signing Day. With Johnson no longer committed to LSU, the Tigers have a pair of wide receivers on board in Louisiana’s Aaron Anderson and Decoldest Crawford.
